See you not how Allah sets forth a parable? – A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high). Giving its fruit at all times, by the Leave of its Lord and Allah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may remember. [14:24-25]

This tree is a parable of life itself.

Should he say, “you were ordered only to make use of ijtihad and to refer to that which is established by proof; you were forbidden to make use of the censured taqlid;” we would say in return: there are various answers to this objection. First, the freedom of the method of the Salaf from evils of any kind, and the soundness of its argument, has already been firmly established by decisive proof on the basis of the Quran, the Sunna, and the consensus (ijma’).
